You do not pass Darjeeling. That is a different climb.
Landing tip: try to reach IXB before 2:00–3:00 PM so the hill section is in daylight. We still run late-night pickups; say so at booking if your flight is after 8:00 PM.

The Deorali drop rule (read this before you book)
Gangtok restricts many non-local commercial vehicles inside the main municipal area during daytime hours. In practice:
- Some airport taxis drop at Deorali Taxi Stand
- A local Sikkim taxi then covers the last 2–3 km to MG Marg / hotel (usually a small extra fare)
- After restricted hours, or with the right vehicle papers, a hotel-gate drop may be possible
When you book, tell us the exact hotel. We will state in writing whether the quote is hotel door or Deorali + local hop. Do not discover this at 7:00 PM with luggage on the stand.
Permits: Gangtok city vs the rest of Sikkim
Gangtok town
Indian guests need photo ID at Rangpo. That is an entry log, not a North Sikkim permit.
Foreign guests need a Restricted Area Permit (RAP) to enter Sikkim. It can be arranged at the check post / authorised offices. Carry passport and visa copies.
Next-day sightseeing
- Tsomgo Lake / Baba Mandir — extra permit; SUV
- Nathula Pass — extra permit, limited days, Indians only
- Lachen / Lachung / Yumthang — Protected Area Permit and a Gangtok overnight first
Do not try Bagdogra → Gangtok → Lachung in one day. Use this taxi to reach Gangtok, sleep, then go north.

- Send flight number, ETA, headcount, Gangtok hotel.
- Confirm with a small advance.
- Get driver name, photo and car number.
- After baggage claim, follow the placard at arrivals.

Night driving is possible but slower around Teesta and Rangpo. Share the real landing time; do not assume a 10:00 PM flight still gets you to MG Marg by midnight.
Travel tips
- Keep original ID in the cabin for Rangpo.
- Carry some cash; highway stalls have weak data.
- Motion sickness tablets help on NH10 bends.
- Tell the driver if anyone needs a restroom stop before Singtam.
- If your hotel is above Deorali, ask about the last-mile rule in the quote.
- Book the Tsomgo permit vehicle from a Gangtok operator the night before — not from the Bagdogra stand.
