A Gangtok to Pelling taxi covers about 115–120 km in 4.5 to 5.5 hours. You do not need a North Sikkim permit for this road. Book a private sedan or SUV hotel-to-hotel and keep the same desk for Pelling sightseeing the next morning.
Darjeeling Sikkim Taxi runs this transfer daily in season, with drivers who know the Temi–Ravangla alignment and the last climb into Upper Pelling.

Shared stands in Gangtok are built for Deorali–Rangpo–Siliguri traffic, not a guaranteed Pelling hotel drop. A reserved car gives you:

Distance: about 115–120 km.
Time: 5 hours on a clean day; allow 5.5–6 hours after monsoon damage or a long Temi photo stop.

- Climb into Pelling
A longer option goes via Namchi (Char Dham). Say so at booking if Char Dham is the point of the day; that is a sightseeing transfer, not a straight drop.
You do not go via Darjeeling unless that is a separate itinerary. For that leg use Darjeeling to Pelling taxi.
Leave Gangtok by mid-morning. A 2:00 PM start means Upper Pelling after dark.

Permits
Pelling, Pemayangtse, Rabdentse, Skywalk and Khecheopalri do not need a North Sikkim PAP.
Carry photo ID in case of routine checks. Foreign guests already in Sikkim on RAP can travel to Pelling on that permit.
If your Gangtok stay included Tsomgo or Nathula, those papers do not carry over as a Pelling fee — and they are not required for West Sikkim town.

The road is hill-standard, not Gurudongmar-grade. A sedan is fine in dry months. Use an SUV in monsoon or if you continue to Yuksom / Dentam the next day.
How pickup works
- Send Gangtok hotel, Pelling hotel, date, headcount.

- Morning pickup at the hotel gate.
- Drop at the Pelling hotel entrance.
Arriving from Bagdogra the same morning? Do not stack IXB → Gangtok → Pelling in one day. Sleep in Gangtok, or book a direct Bagdogra Airport to Pelling taxi and skip Gangtok on the way in.
