Bagdogra Airport to Zuluk Taxi – Silk Route SUV from IXB

Zuluk sits on Sikkim’s Old Silk Route—the zigzag loops, Thambi View Point, and the high belt toward Nathang and Kupup. It is not a Gangtok suburb, and it is not a walk-up prepaid drop. You land at Bagdogra Airport (IXB), enter at Rangpo, and continue toward Rongli → Padamchen → Zuluk in a permit-ready SUV.

A Bagdogra Airport to Zuluk taxi is about 140–160 km and takes 6 to 7 hours in good weather. Same-day arrival only works after an early landing. Many guests halt at Padamchen if the flight is late.

Darjeeling Sikkim Taxi handles IXB pickup, Silk Route permit coordination for Indian travellers, and hotel drop at Zuluk or Padamchen.

This is not a normal airport hop

Zuluk is a border-belt circuit, closer in logic to North Sikkim than to Namchi.

  • Papers are checked at Rongli (and other posts).
  • The last climb is narrow, steep and often foggy.
  • A hatchback from the IXB prepaid booth will not be the vehicle on your permit.

If your plan is only Gangtok, use Bagdogra Airport to Gangtok taxi instead.

Distance, route and travel time

Distance: about 140–160 km depending on diversions and the exact hotel.

Time: 6–7 hours. Fog on the loops can add more.

Typical route

  1. Bagdogra Airport → Sevoke → Teesta
  2. Rangpo (Sikkim entry)
  3. Toward Rongli (permit check for Silk Route)
  4. Padamchen
  5. Climb to Zuluk

You do not need to enter Gangtok city unless your permit desk or hotel plan says so. Some operators still overnight in Gangtok and start the Silk Route the next morning—valid if you want Tsomgo as well.

Landing rule: try to reach IXB by 10:00–11:00 AM for a same-day Zuluk drop. After that, book Padamchen or Gangtok.

A full 2N/3D Silk Route package is usually better value than a single drop plus a second random jeep.

Permits and who can go

Indian tourists

  • Photo ID at Rangpo to enter Sikkim
  • Additional Silk Route permit (arranged against ID, photos and a registered tourist vehicle)
  • Send scans 24 hours before travel

Foreign tourists

The Zuluk–Nathang–Kupup belt is a restricted border zone. Foreign guests should not book this page as a sightseeing product. Use Gangtok, Pelling, Namchi or the permitted Lachung–Yumthang circuit instead.

Permits are date- and vehicle-specific. Do not assume a walk-in at Rongli after a late flight.

Vehicle

SUV only. The loops above Padamchen punish low-clearance cars and city drivers.

Keep the same SUV for Thambi View Point and Nathang the next morning.

How Bagdogra pickup works

  1. Send flight number, ETA, headcount, hotel, ID scans.
  2. We confirm whether same-day Zuluk is safe or you halt at Padamchen.
  3. Driver details before landing.
  4. IXB arrivals pickup.
  5. Rangpo → Rongli → hotel drop.

If the flight slips and daylight dies, we stop at Padamchen. That is the correct call, not a night crawl on the zigzags.

Better itineraries than a naked one-way

A. Early flight, 1 night Zuluk

IXB → Zuluk. Next day Thambi / Nathang. Drop to Gangtok or IXB.

B. Late flight

IXB → Padamchen. Next day Zuluk loops.

C. Silk Route + Gangtok

IXB → Gangtok night → Rongli–Zuluk circuit → Gangtok / IXB.

Do not add Nathula and Zuluk as if they were the same ticket. They are different permit windows.

Travel tips

  • Land early or halt lower.
  • Carry cash; data dies on the ridge.
  • Layers in the cabin—Zuluk is far colder than Bagdogra.
  • Keep original ID for Rongli.
  • Motion sickness tablets help on the loops.
  • Foreign guests: do not buy this transfer.

Why book Darjeeling Sikkim Taxi

  • Silk Route drivers, not only NH10 airport cars
  • Permit help for Indian itineraries
  • Honest Padamchen fallback after late flights
  • Same SUV for the viewpoint day
  • One desk from IXB to Zuluk and back
