Permits and who may go to the lake
- PAP for Lachen / Thangu / Gurudongmar
- Original Indian photo ID at every post
- Foreign guests cannot visit Gurudongmar
- Mixed groups need two plans: Indians to the lake, others rest in Lachen or skip this valley for Yumthang
Book papers on the Gangtok–Lachen booking, not at 3:00 AM.
Vehicles
SUV only: Xylo, Bolero, Ertiga, Innova, Crysta.
Keep one car for Gangtok → Lachen night → lake → Lachung. Changing vehicles breaks permits and pre-dawn timing.
How to book from the village
- Best: the inbound driver already has the next morning on the sheet.
- New booking: send hotel, date, IDs, and proof PAP exists.
- Lake time is locked the evening you arrive. If the road is shut, we say so then.
Peak April–June and October–December: little spare SUV capacity in Lachen itself.
