Distance: about 80–95 km depending on the hotel (town vs Char Dham ridge).
Time: 3.5 hours in light traffic; plan 4.5 hours after Rangpo/Melli queues or monsoon work.

- Climb to Namchi (Char Dham is a short extra spur)
You do not go via Gangtok unless you ask for that detour.
Landing window: before 3:00 PM if you want Char Dham the same evening. Later flights still work; the last climb is just in the dark.
NJP pickup uses the same highway after Siliguri and sits in the same fare band.

Carry photo ID for the Melli / Rangpo entry check. Foreign guests need the usual RAP to enter Sikkim.
If you add Tsomgo, Nathula or Lachen later, those are separate papers from Gangtok.

South Sikkim roads are hill-standard. A sedan is fine in dry months. Use an SUV in monsoon or if Pelling / Yuksom is next.
How Bagdogra pickup works
- Send flight number, ETA, headcount, Namchi hotel (or Char Dham).
- Confirm with a small advance.
- Get driver name, photo and car number.
- Meet at IXB arrivals.
- Drive Melli → Jorethang → Namchi.
