Outstation routes from Siliguri
Siliguri to Darjeeling
Hill Cart Road via Kurseong (or Rohini). About 70 km, 3–3.5 hours. Best first-hill drop after NJP.
Siliguri to Gangtok
NH10 via Sevoke, Teesta, Rangpo. About 120–125 km, 4.5–5.5 hours. Carry ID for the Sikkim check. Hotel drop may stop at Deorali in daytime.
Siliguri to Kalimpong
Teesta / Kalimpong climb. About 75 km, 2.5–3 hours.
Siliguri to Mirik
Sukna belt. About 47 km, 2 hours. Lake town, no Sikkim permit.
Siliguri to Pelling / Namchi / Ravangla
Melli–Jorethang. Longer than Gangtok in time. No North Sikkim PAP for these towns.
Siliguri to Dooars
Lataguri, Gorumara, Jaldapara. Plains + forest roads. Quote waiting time if you want a safari-gate drop-and-wait.
North Sikkim (Lachen / Lachung) does not start as a same-day Siliguri drop. Sleep in Gangtok, then a permit SUV.

AC runs in the plains. On steep climbs many drivers ease the AC so the engine does not heat—normal hill practice, not a downgrade.
Permits from a Siliguri start
- Darjeeling, Mirik, Kurseong, Dooars: no Sikkim permit.
- Gangtok / Pelling / Namchi: photo ID at Rangpo or Melli. Foreign guests need RAP for Sikkim.
- Lachen, Lachung, Nathula, Zuluk: extra papers and a Gangtok (or Rongli) halt. Do not buy those as a midnight Siliguri jeep.
Night driving
Hill roads after 5:00–6:00 PM mean fog, animals and fewer repair options. We still run late NJP–hotel drops inside Siliguri and late IXB pickups.
For Gangtok or Darjeeling after a 7:00 PM arrival, the safer product is a Siliguri hotel night and a dawn departure. If you insist on a night hill run, we will say the risk in the quote—not after a landslide.
